“The Pat McAfee Show” has been in the spotlight for the large part of the last week-plus, and the show’s host has some more words about the state of the program.
McAfee took to X on Wednesday night, addressing all of the attention that the show is getting, saying that he wants to rein in “public beefs” that have embroiled the show.
The “beefs” have notably centered on Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, with the two going back and forth publicly.
McAfee said in his lengthy social media post that he wants the show to focus on “good vibes” and give folks “mental vacations.”
Nevertheless, with Rodgers and Kimmel in their feud —which was recently reignited when the quarterback suggested that the comedian would appear on a list of unsealed documents about convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein — that has been a little more hard to achieve.
Rodgers clarified this week that he was not attempting to say Kimmel was a pedophile.
This recent imbroglio came after ex-NFL quarterback Brett Favre initially filed a lawsuit against McAfee in early 2023 for public comments the host made about the misspending of welfare money in Mississippi.
The suit was eventually dropped.
“I certainly don’t love that I’ve found myself in political wars and public beefs because of something that a guest has said on our show or something that my dumbass has said,” McAfee wrote, “including a lawsuit that was VERY public … but I think what I’ve come to realize is that it’s gonna come with the territory of this venture. We are much more aware of that now.
“And, for the good of our lives, happiness, and mana … we’re gonna try and avoid as many as possible.”
McAfee announced Wednesday that Rodgers won’t appear on the show for the remainder of the NFL season, though in his X post, he said he hopes the 40-year-old will continue to frequent the show in the future.
“Our fans know that [Aaron Rodgers Time] ends shortly after Aaron’s team’s season ends.. that’s how it’s been,” McAfee wrote. “He’ll make random surprise welcomed pop ins during big events or offseason adventures but, it’s always been a season thing. I never said he’ll never be on the show again. I hope he chooses to still chat with us. We’ve been lucky the last 4 years to ride the wave of a season with a 4X NFL MVP (2 of which during The ART Era) and get his thoughts along the way.. in real time.”
With Rodgers and Kimmel trading blows over the last week, McAfee joined the fray when he took shots at ESPN executive Norby Williamson, accusing the veteran of the network of trying to “sabotage” his show.
McAfee inked a five-year $85 million contract with ESPN last spring, leaving his previous deal with FanDuel.
