The royal family is known to spend their summer holiday at their Scottish estate, Balmoral Castle.
Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle may be invited by King Charles to spend some time with the Firm over the season this year.
However, this could prove to be burdensome for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, according to a royal expert.
“If the invitation becomes a real invitation — and it is almost certainly to do that — both Harry and Meghan will find themselves in a very difficult position,” expert Tom Quinn told the Mirror recently.
Harry, 39, and Markle, 42, moved to Montecito, Calif. in 2020 after opting to break away from the Firm.
Quinn noted that the couple is “obsessed with their public image and will be aware that it will look really good if they swallow their pride and came back to the UK.”
He added that it will be “difficult” for the former “Suits” star to humble herself and not “appear to be holding a grudge” if she ever meets Prince William and Kate Middleton at Balmoral.
The foursome have had a contentious relationship in recent years, with Harry making several claims in his 2023 memoir “Spare” about his family.
“Meghan still wants that apology from William and King Charles and Kate,” he added.
It was reported last November that the monarch, 75, and the Princess of Wales, 42, were the ones who asked what the Sussexes’ son Archie’s skin color would be when he was born.
Markle and the Invictus Games founder made the allegations that someone in the royal family questioned the 4-year-old’s race in a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Quinn explained that if it looks like the former actress feels some sort of malice toward the Wales, then “that will lead to criticism and she really hates criticism.”
“On the other hand, she knows she always has the children’s needs to fall back on when she makes her apologies and says she can’t come to Balmoral.”
“According to people I’ve spoken to at Kensington Palace, King Charles has hinted to Harry and Meghan that they should come to Balmoral in the summer to see if something can be done about the ongoing feud in the family,” he added.
“Charles knows that Harry and Meghan are much more likely to respond positively to an invitation after the shock of Harry‘s father’s cancer diagnosis and Kate’s cancer diagnosis. It’s one of those situations where good might just come out of bad.”
Both Charles and the Duchess of Cambridge announced earlier this year that they were diagnosed with cancer.
Harry is set to visit England in May to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, a sports event he established in 2014 to honor wounded servicemen and women.
It is not known yet if Markle will join Harry on the trip across the pond.
