Russell Crowe is related to the last man beheaded in Britain — known for ‘laughing his head off’

Russell Crowe’s ancestor Simon, Lord Lovat got the axe.

The Scottish Jacobite was the last person to be beheaded in England in 1747 — and the Oscar winner, 59, is apparently his descendent.

Crowe took to X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday to reveal that he’s related to the late, great chief of Clan Fraser of Lovat, who was executed for high treason in the 18th century.

The “Beautiful Mind” star wrote that he had “been on the hunt to track down my Italian forebears” for a while now and has been researching his linage, which has led him down “a number of wrong tracks.”

He explained that his great-great-great grandfather on his mother’s side was named Luigi Ghezzi.

His ancestor traveled to his homeland of New Zealand in 1864.

Ghezzi was working in Argentina and later took a boat to India. However, the vessel was shipwrecked, and ended up in Cape Town, South Africa.

While in Africa, Ghezzi married a woman named Mary Ann Curtain and they immigrated to New Zealand.

“Also something else that has recently come to light on my father’s mother’s side, via John (Jock) Fraser (arrived in NZ in 1841) we directly connect back to Simon Fraser, 11th Lord Lovat,” the “Man of Steel” actor noted.

“Look him up. He’s quite the character. The ‘Old Fox’ they used to call him,” he explained.

Lovat was killed at the age of 80 in the infamous Tower of London and was nicknamed the “Old Fox” during his lifetime.

He was murdered due to his association with Charles Edward Stuart during the 1745 Jacobite rising — a rebellion that Stuart attempted in order to reclaim the British throne.

Simon, Lord Lovat reportedly laughed before his execution, leading to the now famous phrase “laughing his head off.”

Crowe’s parentage includes Māori, Scottish, English, German, Irish, Italian, Norwegian and Swedish bloodlines.

He added in his explanation that he previously knew about his aforementioned cultural “connections,” however, he still doesn’t know who and where he gets his Irish ancestry from.

The Kiwi-born entertainer continued: “How about this for weirdness, too. In my mother’s family, three generations apart, women married men called Crowe.”

Additionally, he’s been approached by people who tell him that they are somehow related.

“I’ve been a little dismissive thinking I knew every Crowe family member, but I’m also related to another line of Crowes who appear to have been in Australia very early on. Fascinating,” he wrote.

“It’s so cool to finally find out the Italian connection, and that as much of Italy as I’ve seen, it’s to places I’ve never been. Looks like there’s an adventure ahead.”
