Dior is in a New York state of mind. Brooklyn, specifically, where the storied, luxury French label touched down on April 15 to showcase its fall 2024 collection. The Brooklyn Museum was the venue of choice — fitting, as the institution previously hosted the “Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” exhibition a few years ago.

Despite an hour-and-a-half delayed start (the Brooklyn Bridge was closed, but what’s more New York than a fashionista-fueled traffic jam?), glittering guests (including Charlize Theron, Anya Taylor-Joy, Naomi Watts and Karlie Kloss) were treated to a show that was, at its core, a love letter to the Big Apple.

In less than a New York minute, the opening look flashed down the runway. It was accessorized with what’s undoubtedly the star piece of the collection: the house’s iconic Saddle purse, finished entirely in its signature black-and-white newsprint, emblazoned with the words “Paris” and “New York,” as an homage to the world’s two most stylish cities. Nostalgic, but make it extra (extra!).

That sentiment describes the rest of Dior Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s looks. Those coded in the maison’s Parisian sensibility flirted between both the feminine (fringy frocks) and the masculine (Bar jackets with hot pants, inspired by house muse Marlene Dietrich). They were infused with a ’40s vibe (aviator jackets styled with below-the-knee flared skirts, knee-high netted platforms).

Another series of looks — splashed with New York City’s skyline and Lady Liberty, whether on a sportier trenchcoat or a matching denim-on-denim look — declared an unabashed celebration of the city that never sleeps. How dreamy.
