Former Philadelphia Eagles and Super Bowl 33-winning Denver Broncos linebacker Seth Joyner called out ESPN NFL analyst and senior writer Mina Kimes on Tuesday.
During ESPN’s “NFL Live,” Kimes said former USC wide receiver Makai Lemon will fill in “a lot of the gaps that were pretty noticeable last year” when talking about the Eagles’ offense last season, to which Joyner responded with a tweet.
“Gaps?” Joyner wrote in the post.
Joyner went on to bring up the problems that followed the Eagles last season. He noted that injuries plagued the offensive line and offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo,who was fired after the season, was over his head.
Aside from the lingering issues that Joyner mentioned, the Eagles were also dealing with a disgruntled A.J. Brown at wide receiver, who was later traded to the New England Patriots after Lemon was taken with the 20th pick of the 2026 NFL Draft.
In his post, Joyner compared Brown and Lemon and said they are different types of wide receivers. Brown is primarily used as a red-zone target that goes up for 50/50 balls, while Lemon is a slot receiver who will be an intriguing weapon for offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.
“Everyone suspects that Lemon will unlock the middle of the field vs zone, and option and crossing route vs. man cov!” Joyner wrote. “… But Lemon will in no way replace AJ’s production, totally different WR, that’ll be asked to produce in a totally different way!”
Kimes responded with confusion over Joyner’s issue.
“Seth, I’m confused what about what you’re disagreeing with here — my take was that he doesn’t replicate AJ at all, and will help with MOF/YAC, which has been missing in the Eagles offense for a litany of reasons,” Kimes wrote back.
During Kimes’ segment on “NFL Live,” she did not say that Lemon would replace Brown in the offense, as she actually said Devonta Smith will take over Brown’s usage as a threat on the perimeter.
Kimes then went on to say she believes Lemon’s usage will rely on completing quick completions against zone coverage and yards after the catch.
“I’m disagreeing with the gaps in the offense comment,” Joyner responded to Kimes. “The injured o-line, play calling, and lack of run game were the gaps! Laura questioned about AJs production replacement, my comments were about the AJ being an X and Lemon being a slot WR! As a matter of fact we agree upon Lemon benefiting Hurts in the middle of the field in this new offense! I’m not sure what I said that offended you, but all things are up for conversation and debate, that’s posted on this platform!
During his junior year at USC, Lemon primarily lined up as a slot receiver and had a career high of 89 receptions, 14 touchdowns, 1,156 yards and 502 yards after the catch.
