Tracy Wolfson came prepared.
CBS Sports’ lead sideline reporter conducted her postgame interview with UConn coach Dan Hurley and star center Donovan Clingan on a ladder Saturday after her previous exchange with Purdue’s 7-foot-4 superstar, Zach Edey, fueled jokes online.
“That is right, Ian [Eagle], you said I needed a ladder, I got myself a ladder,” a smiling Wolfson said after the top-seeded Huskies defeated the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide, 86-72, in their Final Four matchup at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.
Though Wolfson had a couple of inches on Hurley as the postgame exchange got underway, it was a very different case earlier in the day Saturday with Edey, 21.
Moments after the No. 1 seed Boilermakers topped the eleventh-seeded NC State Wolfpack in their Final Four contest, 63-50, Wolfson spoke with Edey on the court, where the height difference was quite apparent.
As the camera zoomed in on Edey, who tallied 20 points, 12 rebounds and four assists against the Wolfpack, only Wolfson’s mic was in the frame.
“Tracy, we just ordered you a ladder,” analyst Ian Eagle quipped afterward.
It wasn’t long before the jokes started rolling in on social media.
“We can’t even see Tracy Wolfson when they do the close up on Zach Edey,” one X user posted.
Another user wrote, “The distance between the top of Tracy Wolfson’s head and Zach Edey’s chin is mind-boggling.”
Upon wrapping her interview with Hurley and Clingan, who recorded 18 points, five rebounds and one assist en route to a second straight championship game, Wolfson addressed the chatter.
When one X user posted, “Watching @tracywolfson interview these basketball players is amusing. They tower over her. She’s still my favorite reporter though,” Wolfson replied, “Thank you! Have to embrace it!!”
The reigning national champion Huskies will face Purdue in this year’s title game on Monday night.
