When putting through a custom order on anything, we’re often told it’s always best to give as much detail as you can to avoid any confusion. Even better if you give a picture or sketch reference.
But for one Costco customer, this strategy turned their custom cake order rather pear-shaped. And we’re sorry, but we’re laughing along with the internet on this one!
A Reddit user posted via r/mildlyInfuriating has shared how the supermarket giant got their order completely wrong despite being very clear about what they wanted. Perhaps a little TOO clear.
“Costco will give you exactly what you know you didn’t need,” the post reads.
Costco’s hilarious cake fail
According to the post, the customer was very specific about the order, filling in all the relevant categories on the cake order form, and even offering up a sketch of how they expected the cake to look.
“No writing / no designs,” is scribbled alongside the picture. “Only request red frosting on perimeter for top/bottom.”
In case anything was lost in translation, the customer also scribbled a big cross and the word “none” in the cake design section of the order form.
Sadly for the customer, and hilarious for us following along online, the decorator took the info way too literally and offered up a white slab with an image of the diagram in the center of the cake.
Nope, that’s not what they asked for
Yep, just a red outline of the slab. Talk about an epic fail!
The post generated a lot of laughs in the thread, with many in stitches over the order, but most users took the side of the decorator claiming that they followed the brief rather well!
“The good news is they did read both pages of instructions,” one person wrote.
“Honestly, I’m pretty impressed by how close the drawing is to the figure you drew,” another shared.
