She wanted some crown jewels – not a pair of binoculars.
In a recently resurfaced podcast interview, Prince William admitted to getting Middleton a gift that she hated early on in their relationship – and its something she’ll never let him forget.
“I did get my wife a pair of binoculars once – she’s never let me forget that,” William said during a 2020 appearance on Peter Crouch’s podcast on BBC Radio Five Live.
“That was early on in the courtship that was — I think that sealed the deal.”
The couple, who just recently celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary, have been together since their college days at St. Andrews University in Scotland.
However, since they’ve celebrated so many holidays together over the years, it’s unclear what special occasion marked this pair of binoculars.
“It didn’t go well,” the Prince continued about the failed present to Middleton.
And it looks like their relationship is still stronger than ever – last month, Prince William was overheard complimenting his wife during a visit to Birmingham, England.
“What an amazing outfit Kate has got on!” a fan told him as he greeted the crowd. “It’s beautiful!”
“Oh she always looks stunning!” the Prince replied.
Last week, the pair celebrated yet another milestone together, appearing at King Charles’ coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey.
The ceremony marked the official transfer of power to the 74-year-old after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, this past September at age 96.
She had reigned for 70 years at the time of her death.
During the ceremony, both Prince William and his nine-year-old son, Prince George, played crucial roles in the day.
Prince William acted as the Stole Royal, which means that the one to present his father with the Robe Royal.
Prince George, who is next in line after his father to take the throne, was a Page of Honour, ensuring that his grandfather didn’t trip over his robe at the ceremony.
He also carried a small sword during the ceremony to protect King Charles.
On Sunday’s coronation concert, a celebration that headlined performers like Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, Prince William made a heartfelt speech to his family, namely congratulating his father on the royal role.
“My father’s first words, on entering Westminster Abbey yesterday, were a pledge of service,” Prince William said to a crowd of 20,000 people who were gathered for the concert on the grounds of Windsor Castle.
“It was a pledge to continue to serve, because for over 50 years, in every corner of the UK, across the Commonwealth, and around the world, he has dedicated himself to serve others, both current and future generations, and those whose memory must not be neglected.”
During the speech, he also paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II.
“As my grandmother said, when she was crowned, coronations are a declaration of our hopes for the future, and I know she’s up there fondly keeping an eye on us, and she’d be a very proud mother,” William said.
The ceremony also drew in family members from both near and far – including California-based Prince Harry, who has seemingly been at odds with his father and brother in recent years, especially following the January release of his tell-all memoir, “Spare.”
However, he only stayed in the United Kingdom for less than 24 hours, making it home in time to celebrate his son, Archie’s fourth birthday.
His wife, Meghan Markle, did not join him at the events – instead, she was spotted hiking in Montecito.
