An Australian influencer is being ripped online after he claimed to save money by peeling grocery store bananas before weighing them — which had critics advising his girlfriend to dump the “cheapskate.”

A video detailing his unorthodox method of conserving cash has amassed more than 800,000 views on TikTok.

The man, Mason, had his bananas penny-pinching habit aired recently by his girlfriend Mai on their joint account, where the duo frequently share tips on how to enjoy life without breaking the bank.

In the clip — captions “how my frugal boyfriend saves money on his bananas” and subtitled “the secondhand embarrassment tho” — Mason can be seen peeling one of the potassium-rich fruit before bagging it and heading to the self-checkout at a grocery store.

He then puts the lighter item on a scale, which generates a cheaper price than it would have if the banana still had its skin.

Mason’s demonstration didn’t resonate well with commenters, many of whom felt he was going a bit overboard on the quarter-hoarding.

“That’s not frugal, that’s a Penny pincher,” declared one critic.

Another scoffed, “I don’t think I’ve ever spent more than 2 dollars on bananas.”

“Real frugal ppl weigh them without a bag,” snarked another.

To exploit the policy, the freeloader simply grabbed a discarded cup from the parking lot and took it to the soda station so he could top up his pop for free.
