Shocking video shows bull runner gored as he checks his phone

Talk about a dropped call.

At an Aug. 30 “bou embolat” (bull with balls) event in Alcàsser, in the Valencia province of Spain, a runner was attacked while playing with his cell phone.

In shocking video obtained by CEN Media, the muscular bull, with burning balls of flammable material attached to its horns, is seen charging towards the young man, who is distracted by his phone.

He barely sees the bull until the very last second — but by then, it was too late.

As he tries to escape, the unidentified man trips and falls. The bull is seen trampling him as spectators scream in the background.

Thankfully, however, the man was eventually helped by onlookers, who were able to drag him away and into safety.

Sources told CEN Media that the man was treated for a non-serious gore wound on the side of his body.

“Bou embolat” takes place in many parts of Spain, typically in the Valencian community and in southern Catalonia, per DBpedia.

During the festivities, a bull with burning balls of flammable material attached to its horns roams free on the street while participants try to dodge it, per Progressive Spain.

According to CEN Media, just one day earlier, another person was injured at a “bou embolat” event.

Miraculously, he was able to come out of the situation unscathed.

Alcasser Municipality has called for participants to take precautions, CEN reported.

Some animal rights groups have protested such events, including last year’s San Fermin Running of the Bulls festival in Pamplona, according to the Associated Press.

Protesters dressed in dinosaur costumes, holding up signs that read, “Bullfighting is prehistoric.”

Activists said the point of their protest was to show that runs could be lighthearted and held without cruelty to animals.

“Bullfighting is the long ritualized execution of bulls and many tourists who come to the bull-runs don’t actually realize that the same bulls they’re running down a couple of streets with are later killed in the bullring that day,” Chelsea Monroe, PETA senior digital campaign officer, told the AP at the time.
