A pet expert is sharing the signs that your cat considers you their mother.
Sara, a TikToker who goes by the handle @whyicanthavenicethings, posts videos of her cat to her 43,100 followers and recently revealed the two signs that your purr-fect pet thinks you’re their meow-ther.
In a video that has amassed 2.2 million views and topped 270,800 likes, Sara explains that the first sign is if your cat is your constant shadow.
“Following you around the house is one of the most common signals that your cat has imprinted on you,” she said. “If your cat follows you to the bathroom, bedroom and kitchen, then you and your cat have developed a deep attachment.”
The cat lover said that this behavior shows how much your pet loves being around you and that your kitty is looking to you for love, company and cues as to what will happen next.
Great Pet Care explains that when a cat seems to shadow you at all times, it means they share a close bond with you. The cat might also be curious, insecure, want attention, want food or want to play.
“You are the center of your cat’s world and the keeper of all their resources, so it makes sense that your cat follows you around,” the site reads.
Sara posted a follow-up video for the second signal, which is that you are your cat’s “sleep buddy.”
“Sleeping puts a cat in a very vulnerable position. Cats are very concerned about their safety and won’t sleep where they aren’t sure about their surroundings,” she revealed.
“If your cat has imprinted on you, they may take the spot next to you and snuggle up close. This means they trust you to protect them should a predator launch a nighttime attack,” Sara continued.
She added that your pet will rest easy knowing you won’t do anything bad to them while they’re in slumber.
When it comes to with whom your pet chooses to sleep, Cats.com notes that cats “sleep next to their favorite people who make them feel safe and secure.”
“Co-sleeping with your cat can deepen the bond that you share, as long as the interaction is positive for both the cat and the chosen person.”
