Want to live on a private island? Mystery billionaire will select lucky couple —and pay them $185,000

A mystery billionaire is offering a lucky couple $185,000 to spend a year living on an idyllic private island in the Caribbean — but there’s a catch.

According to a listing placed by the Fairfax and Kensington recruitment agency, the chosen pair will be expected to throw themselves into the full-time job of in-house hype machine, promoting the exclusive retreat on social media.

Their main task will be to document life on the Bond villain-evoking lair in the British Virgin Islands, chronicling its evolution from construction site into a full-fledged luxury oasis.

“This is the ultimate influencer role,” the agency’s George Ralph Dunn told Kennedy News. “The owner wants to emphasize the beauty of the place. They’d need to capture it and then put their own stamp on how everything looks and works.”

“He really wants to capture how the island transforms too, so they’d tell the story from day one with the skeleton of a building site to hopefully one year on where the majority of the work is completed,” Dunn noted.

As of yet, both the identity of the owner and the island remain under wraps until the sale is announced in January. However, both Virgin Airlines big-wig Richard Branson and Google Co-Founder Larry Page own islands nearby, effectively making it a veritable billionaire’s row on the water.

And while the island’s own influencer will consult on the creation of guest lodges and a main residence, they won’t be expected to pick up a hammer — construction will be executed by the property’s existing general manager and engineers).

The paradise-bound pair will be also be expected to manage the facilities and events while the first wave of guests and investors visit the tropical Valhalla.

In order to qualify, applicants must be social media-savvy, “adventurous” and have prior experience in the luxury industry such as “working on yachts or ultra-high-net-worth households,” per Dunn.

Finding someone who embodies all these facets is understandably no mean feat.

The on-island influencer’s role will be to function as a hype machine as the property is transformed into an exclusive retreat.

“We’ve had applications from candidates we represent but the reason we’re trying to reach out is that a lot of people in private service roles don’t have the media side to them,” the recruiter lamented.

In fact, this need for diverse talents is why the billionaire is seeking couples. Each partner brings a different complementing skillsets to the table, such as groundsman and housekeeper, Dunn explained.

On its face, this promo might sound like a cover story for a surreptitious game show or influencer-based social experiment (cue images of the super-rich hunting your favorite Twitch streamers on a beach in animal masks).

However, the advert states that that goal is to attract “barefoot luxury tourism” to the region. This is defined by Dunn as an “unpretentious” travel experience, in which tourists can be in a “beautiful part of the world” with good service sans feeling “uptight.”

The couple jets off to this seaside elysium in January to start the assignment, which is broken down into grueling six-day work weeks.

They get one return flight home per year, as well as 25 vacation days, which can be spent on one of the neighboring islands (although we presume some influencers might yearn for a change of scenery after being “marooned” for months).

The job includes more than two week’s paid vacation — if you need a break from life on a private island, that is.

To apply, influencers must submit a TikTok video, which will be reviewed by the billionaire’s personal video team. Prospective employees should probably apply soon as Dunn plans to choose the lucky couple before the holidays, ahead of their visa application.

Dunn, for one, sees the gig as the opportunity of a lifetime.

“They’d have to pick up their whole life and move but it’s a cool role to pick up your life for,” Dunn noted.

“If I wasn’t sitting at this end of the table I would have applied myself,” he said.
