A Virginia man was left stunned after learning he won $1 million in a lottery — while sailing the tropics on a Caribbean cruise.
Jermone Testa, 39, purchased the winning ticket in Fredericksburg before jetting out of the US for the New Year’s cruise.
“My wife screamed and I fell off the bed!” Testa told Newsflash about the moment he and his spouse learned they were $1 million richer.
“I still haven’t wrapped my head around it yet!” he added.
Testa entered the Virginia Lottery’s New Year’s Millionaire Raffle, where more than $6 million in prize money was dolled out.
“Testa and his wife had to wait until they returned to Virginia before they could redeem the winning ticket and claim the top prize,” a spokesperson from the lottery organization stated.
No doubt, news of their unexpected winnings made the cruise all the more enjoyable for the lucky lottery winning couple.
The Testas haven’t disclosed how they plan to spend their newfound fortune beyond taking care of their family, but they weren’t the only ones to scoop a seven-figure sum in the raffle.
Across Virginia four other entrants won $1 million, including a Woodbridge woman who had also just returned from vacation.
Meanwhile, seven tickets won $100,000 each, while a further 1000 people took home $500.
The raffle offers a one in 125,000 chance of winning $1 million, according to the organization.
