A Tesco checkout worker who was ”stalked” by obsessed customer — has now married him.
Charlotte Robertson, 43, who is mom to Thomas, 24, and Jamie, 20, met her husband Glen, 47, the dad of Freya who is 12, in 2019, while she was working behind the supermarket tills.
Their brief first encounter left Glen smitten and he visited the shop each day in the hope of chatting to her.
It wasn’t until four months later that their paths crossed again — and the pair went on their first date the next day.
By the end of the week, they had declared their love for each other — with Glen proposing two months later.
They tied the knot in September 2020 and are now approaching their fourth wedding anniversary and say they ”haven’t spent more than three days apart”.
Charlotte, who is now a carer in a children’s care home, from Winchester, said: “I was in the process of a divorce when I met Glen, so I wasn’t expecting to find love again.
“I didn’t even realize he was flirting with me at the tills.
“Nor did I know that he came into the store every day to try and speak to me.
“None of my colleagues noticed that Glen was coming in every day.
“When we did speak again, I could tell Glen was trying to keep the conversation going.
“I felt a compulsion to give him my number, like I was possessed.
“I’d never given my number to a total stranger but now I’m thankful I did.
“We instantly clicked and after our first date, we knew we had something special.
“I’ve never had a stalker before, so when Glen admitted, he’d been trying to speak to me for four months I felt flattered.
“I like to tease him about it every now and then but I’m just as besotted with him.
“Every little helper has a stalker — and sometimes you marry them.”
Charlotte, who was working at Tesco in Broadwater, Stevenage, first came across Glen, an electrician, at her check-out in October 2019.
Although their encounter was brief, Glen tried to make conversation, with Charlotte being “oblivious” to his flirting efforts.
When they finally crossed paths again, she passed her number over to the smitten shopper — after confirming he didn’t have a girlfriend.
“I wasn’t looking for love either but there was something about Charlotte that drew me to her.” Glen said.
“I lost my dad a few months before I met Charlotte, he hoped that me and my daughter were going to be okay before he passed.
“Looking back, I’m more than okay and it’s like the universe put Charlotte into my life for a reason.
“I admit, there were times when I went into her Tesco and left with nothing.
“But I’m not a total stalker, just a man in love.
“Timing is everything — we’re proof of that.”
They went on their first date went for a drink the following day and moved in together a month later.
The couple got married in September 2020, in an intimate ceremony in The Priory Barns, in Little Wymondley with only 11 guests.
Four years on, the pair are still “madly in love” and are planning a return trip to Dubai, where they went for their honeymoon.
“I still blush when he cracks jokes around me- he’s truly my best friend,” Charlotte said.
“He still makes me nervous, and loves to wind me up-I have to beg him to stop because I go so red.
“When we’re together, we’re like two teenagers.
“We’re planning a little week away soon; we just love going away together
“I like to think he’s besotted with me.
“He makes me laugh every day and he’s my favourite person to spend time with.
“I know I’ll be with him forever, and I didn’t think I’d get a chance at this kind of love.
“When I gave him his receipt, I didn’t know I’d be giving him my number four months later.”
