A Delta Airlines passenger endured an excruciatingly awkward customer service call after discovering that the rep was none other than his ex-girlfriend. The mortified flyer detailed the uncomfortable exchange in a viral Reddit post.
“I’ve heard of running into an ex, but I ain’t never heard of talking to one via customer service,” the unnamed traveler — who was flying with his wife and child — wrote while recounting the “weird” convo.
The Redditor said he’d received a callback from Delta customer service over an unspecified issue, when he noticed that “the voice on the other end was familiar,” per the post.
It soon dawned on both parties that they were speaking to their former flame.
“We had a slightly terse, ‘Oh wow, I didn’t expect it to be you’ kind of moment once we realized who the other was,” recalled the passenger, who claimed that his ex took some jabs at this new life.
“As we started talking, she confirmed some details about me and my trip and then in a sarcastic voice, “Wow, first class with the wife and baby, huh? Pretty fancy,” he recalled. “We didn’t have a long catch up or anything. She sounded slightly jealous.”
In fact, the bitterness apparently ran so deep that his bygone girlfriend neglected to assist the poor fellow with his problem.
“She said she couldn’t help me with my issue and I quickly ended the conversation,” he wrote. “Wife beside me was confused.”
The man’s fellow Redditors sympathized with his mortifying blast from the past with many joking that his bitter ex would remove his Delta perks because of it.
“Breakup costs you soooo many upgrades to C+,” quipped one.
“Bro is mysteriously at the bottom of every upgrade list until the end of time,” wrote another. “He’ll be delta 360 billion miler and will never get the upgrade.”
They added, “My condolences, OP. I can only imagine what would happen to me if a few of my exes picked up.”
A third advised the poster to “delete this post and go anonymous” as otherwise he could risk revealing his username to the ex “if she’s a r/delta reader.”
Others criticized the past paramour for letting personal matters supersede her duty as a customer service professional.
“Her comment was uncalled for,” criticized one detractor. “She needs to be more professional.”
“Every customer service call center I’ve ever worked in has required us to transfer a call to another rep if it’s someone we know personally,” said another. “This rep should have done that.”
Another advised, “You should file a complaint. The last thing Delta wants is CS reps shaming customers about picking first class.”
Some commenters even urged the Redditor to check to see if she canceled his flight — which he claimed wasn’t the case.
