Couple somehow proposes to each other at exact same time — after planning identical engagements

A couple accidentally proposed to each other at exactly the same time — after both secretly spending months planning identical engagements.

Abigail Harvey, 27, and Carlee Bibb, 24, left each other stunned when they both got down on one knee simultaneously.

The loved-up pair, together for two-and-a-half years, had begun discussing marriage earlier this year and even browsed engagement rings together.

But unknown to one another, both Abigail and Carlee secretly purchased rings in the very same month and hatched separate plans to pop the question.

By remarkable coincidence, they each decided that Carlee’s graduation celebration would provide the perfect backdrop for the proposal.

The couple enlisted the help of a friend and photographer, disguising the occasion as a graduation photoshoot on a picturesque beach in San Diego.

What neither realized was that the photographer had been given the exact same instructions by both women — to use a pre-arranged codeword as the signal to get down on one knee.

The result was a once-in-a-lifetime double proposal that neither of them saw coming.

Abigail, a UX designer from Chandler, Arizona, said: “It was just total shock from both of us in the moment.”

“When she got down on one knee, I genuinely couldn’t believe it.”

“I just burst out with a scream. I couldn’t hold in my surprise and excitement!”

The couple first crossed paths in July 2023 through a local LGBTQ+ social group that regularly organized community meet-ups and activities.

After several friends pointed out how well suited they seemed to one another, the pair decided to give dating a try – and have been inseparable ever since.

Abigail said: “We started talking about marriage in January and really solidified that we wanted to get engaged.”

“It was so fun getting to look at rings together, and that way we knew exactly what the other person wanted.”

“Turns out we both bought each other our rings in April, with no idea what the other was planning.”

As Carlee’s graduation from her bachelor’s degree approached, the couple organized a celebration with her family to mark the milestone.

Ahead of the festivities, Carlee suggested arranging a graduation photoshoot and enlisted her sister-in-law, Olivia, a professional photographer, to capture the special occasion.

Abigail said: “I did start to get a little suspicious because Carlee suggested getting our nails done and new dresses for the shoot.”

“But I figured I must have been reading into it given everything I was thinking about.”

“We even happened to get the same code word from Olivia, ‘back-to-back’, which was meant to give each of us the signal to propose.”

“When she said the magic words, I just happened to be able to reach for the ring first.”

Footage captured by Olivia shows the emotional moment both women realized they had planned the very same surprise, before joyfully accepting each other’s proposals.

The celebrations did not end there.

Carlee had secretly arranged for Abigail’s family to fly in from Arizona and join the gathering, transforming what had begun as a graduation party into an unforgettable engagement celebration surrounded by their loved ones.

Abigail said: “I was so surprised, especially because everyone had been lying to me!”

“I even checked with my mom a month or so earlier. But they’d all been sworn to secrecy.”
