A Michigan couple have been trolled over their 33-year age gap — but the couple insist they’re each other’s soulmates.
Nicole Downs was 18 when she took to Tinder and matched with 51-year-old Michael back in 2018. (She didn’t reveal his last name.)
The couple have been together ever since, with Downs, now 22, creating a TikTok tribute for her beau, now aged 55.
“I couldn’t imagine my life if we never met,” the blond cooed in the clip, which featured photos of the couple and was set to the romantic track “One Life” by James Bay.
“We started dating in 2018, living together 3.5 years, best friends,” Downs further declared in the video, which has clocked up 364,000 views. “We’re happy together despite what other people might think.”
Fellow TikTokers weren’t shy in sharing their thoughts on the unlikely romance, with many blasting the big age gap.
“I legit thought that was your grandpa,” one bluntly responded, while another witheringly stated: “No. Just wrong.”
The video isn’t the first that Downs has created as an ode to her older man. Back in April, the Gen Z TikToker shared another clip about her Gen X partner, who was born back in the 1960s.
“I don’t think the age gap is the issue, it’s more of the fact that you were freshly 18,” one critic claimed in the comments section beneath that video.
However, others claimed the couple were cute together and were clearly in love after four years of dating.
“After you’re 18 it shouldn’t matter as long as you find yourself happy,” a supporter stated. “No one’s place to tell you who to love after you’re an adult.”
Meanwhile, another defender declared: “I think everyone in the comments should learn to just let people live and love without judging! You don’t know them!”
