California couple’s harrowing wedding night brush with the law – before they realized what was actually happening

A California couple‘s picture-perfect wedding night nearly ended in disaster.

Just hours after tying the knot in Athens, Tennessee, Kara Lewis Webb and West Webb had a shocking brush with the law when they were pulled over by the police while leaving their wedding.

“Within five minutes, we saw the blue and red lights flashing in the rearview mirror,” the bride told PEOPLE. “Initially, I assumed we were getting pulled over for a missing headlight or maybe an issue with our tags. But no, apparently it was much worse.”

A viral video of the incident shows a law enforcement officer confronting the couple after pulling them over.

“Have you ever been in California?” the officer asks. “Yes, I have,” the groom responds.

“Well, have you had a speeding ticket there that you never took care of?” the cop continues. “Because I have a warrant for your arrest.”

“Are you serious?” the groom asks. But the cop quickly reveals he was only kidding about the warrant.

“I got jokes,” the cop says, before letting the couple off with a warning. “Be careful, slow down for me. Y’all have a good night.”

The video has racked up over 9 million views on Instagram.

Kara, a photographer, videographer, and influencer, said the prank was believable because the couple have a California license plate, saying he “could have kept the prank going longer than he did,” and is thankful he “lightened the mood almost immediately.”

The couple said they’re open to taking the officer out to lunch if he’d like.

“Of all the ways we could have ended our wedding night, this was certainly not one we saw coming,” Kara told PEOPLE.

Despite the ordeal, the bride described the wedding as a “fairytale.”

“It could not have gone more perfect, and was everything we had hoped for,” the bride said.

“One thing for sure is, we will be telling this story for the rest of our lives.”
