Gabby Barrett is clapping back at haters who say her career is tanking over comments she’s made about her faith and marriage.
“I treasure my marriage and my relationship with the Lord the most,” Barrett, 23, said in a clip posted to Instagram during her appearance on the podcast “Unexpected with Hanna Love” last week.
“Tons of people say to me or have texted me or commented about me and said ‘she’s ruining her career by talking about these things’ and by, you know, X, Y and Z,’” the “American Idol” alum stated.
“I treasure a godly marriage over anything the world could offer,” the songstress continued. “Because I know where I’m going, I know who I’m going to see and who I’m going to answer to.”
According to the “I Hope” singer, she’s not worried about the naysayers because they “are going to have to answer to him too.”
“I’m trying to do the best with what I’ve been given for Him,” Barrett explained.
The Post reached out to Barrett for comment.
Barrett previously revealed that she’s refused several intimate duets with other male artists out of respect for her marriage to fellow “Idol” contestant Cade Foehner.
“I won’t get into specific songs, but there’s been large song opportunities that have come in for me to do [an] add-on or be a part of and something between myself and my husband and I respect him a ton and I listen to what he has to say and I think he deserves that,” the singer said on the same podcast.
“And there’s been songs that are just not appropriate to sing wording-wise,” Barrett continued. “Like, these love songs that are really intimate.”
According to the CMA and American Music Award winner, there is more to duetting a song than just singing the words.
“When you accept a song, there’s obligations that go along with it, that you could sing it on award shows together, you might be doing interviews together,” Barrett stated. “What does that look like on the stage? What does that dynamic look like? If I’m singing with another man, is that going to make my husband uncomfortable? Probably.”
“And I respect him and love him so much that I’m not going to jeopardize my marriage to do a duet with somebody, you know,” she continued. “Like, I care about this a lot more and I pray and hope and know that God will bless my efforts in trying to keep my marriage straight, and not just for a duet or whatever it is.”
Barrett and Foehner, 27, announced their engagement in March 2019. They exchanged vows that October.
According to the mother of three, the pair’s faith in God has helped the singer maintain her convictions.
Naturally, several denizens of the internet were outraged by the “Glory Days” singer’s comments.
“Gabby Barrett’s husband is an insecure controlling freak and this is actually terrifying that he won’t allow her to collab with male artists due to his own insecurities,” one user ranted on X (formerly Twitter). “What century is this? How is this endearing? How can anyone find this charming or romantic?”
“That marriage sounds fun,” one netizen commented sarcastically.
“If you have to dim your lights to be in the relationship … this man don’t deserve you,” a third user sneered.
