Fashion’s taken “boots with the fur” to hair-raising extremes.
Fancy feet on the scene will soon feature foal-like fabulousness made complete with a silk faux ponytail.
For a cool $3,390, cool gals with a flair for horsing around can lasso a pair of Alexander McQueen’s new “Hoof Boot in Black” for trotting around town.
A haute couture cousin to the furry footwear is McQueen’s “Hoof Boot in Brown,” a $2,990 offering decked out in genuine calf hair.
The chicness of the shoes notwithstanding, their wild whimsy seems to be lost on utterly confused clotheshorses.
“What in the Shrek and Donkey is going on here Alexander McQueen,” questioned a TikTok content creator, who likened the designer duds to the animated ogre and his four-legged sidekick.
“For $2,800 you can be a noble steed, too, honey,” she joked while zooming in on a pair of leather boots from the quirky collection. “I cannot.”
However, for fashionistas who can, each style of the hot heels boast a horse-hoof silhouette, a rounded toe with horseshoe detailing, silver-finished nail studs and a leather sole.
Hoof boots in brown are nearly sold out, with only one pair in size 40 remaining, per the couturier’s site. The must-haves in black are listed as “coming soon,” and are currently unavailable in all sizes.
The animalistic accessories debuted at designer Sean McGirr’s fall 2024 collection for McQueen in Paris earlier this year.
But the far-out footies are far from the only ones to cause a massive stir after hitting the runway.
MSCHF’s “Big Red Boots” sent social media spiraling at the top of 2023, seeing style-hounds scrambling to get their paws on the $350 head-turners — which hilariously resembled footgear rocked by cartoon characters Astro Boy and Super Mario.
Supermodel Kaia Gerber, 23, too, sent eyebrows-raising after wearing a $1,850 pair of Loewe ruffle heels in a photo spread for I-D Magazine. Internet critics couldn’t help but poke fun at the pinup’s funky finery.
“I need those to mop the floors as I walk the catwalk,” joked a digital wise guy.
And although McQueen’s barnyard-inspired boots have garnered similar flak from neigh-sayers, fans of the avant-garde totally get it.
“Yeah, I’d wear this to the grocery store, to the club, my friend’s son’s bar mitzvah — truly everywhere,” model Achieng Agutu told Vogue of the ponytailed shoe. “A girl with a ponytail is a girl who knows…what she wants.”
“Just like me.”
