High school student denied her diploma over $15 laptop repair fee from her freshman year: ‘You gon pay what you owe’

It’ll be one of those high school stories this student will tell for ages.

A Nebraska high school student said she didn’t get her diploma at graduation because of an unpaid $15 laptop repair fee.

Ellie McCormick revealed the upsetting moment in a viral TikTok she posted, where the graduate held up a pink-colored paper demanding her to pay up.

“Your diploma has been pulled until you have paid your laptop repair fee. Please see the amount below…,” part of the pink slip read.

At the very bottom of the paper, the graduate’s full name was shown next to “$15 fee – Laptop Repair” in all caps.

Despite the disappointing moment, McCormick was all smiles while wearing her green cap and gown — captioning the vid, “Hot girls get a pink diploma anyway.”

Viewers jumped to the comment section under the video, that now has over 720,000 views, sharing their similar end-of-the-year school fee experiences.

“…I payed 68 dollars for losing my bag and charger literally a few hours before we walked the stage😭,” one miserable replier wrote.

“My school tried to hold my diploma over 75 cents from me breaking a keycap…in the 4th grade,” another commenter said.

McCormick replied back, “[Your] s—-ting me.”

“I guess you learned your first lesson in life. You gon pay what you owe,” someone else replied.

As to why McCormick was ordered to pay the $15, the high school grad revealed in the video she lost her laptop bag during freshman year.

McCormick was still able to walk across the stage, though, she was without her certificate of completion.

Back in February, another student faced a similar experience after a 1 cent unpaid balance threatened the chances of them receiving their diploma at Washington State University.

Katie Lane received an email notifying her of the small unpaid balance on her student account, admitting she was “freaked out” over it.

Luckily, Lane was told by a university spokesperson she, or any other student in general, would not have their diplomas withheld from them over unpaid balances.

A Philadelphia high school student was denied her diploma by the school’s principal after she danced across the stage during a commencement ceremony.

Footage of the incident went viral when the principal could be seen waving off student Hafsah Abdur-Rahman after she did her stint celebration dance.

Abdur-Rahman was handed her degree after the ceremony and received an apology from the school’s assistant superintendent afterwards.
