You’ve heard of Barbie’s Dreamhouse — now you can have Barbie’s dream coffin.
If you, like Barbie, ever think about dying, your existential crisis can now be Barbie-themed.
Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” movie has inspired a cultural and fashion trend dubbed “Barbiecore,” reportedly contributing to a pink paint shortage — and now even funeral homes are jumping on the trend.
Funeral homes are offering hot pink Barbie-themed coffins for fans who hope to take their love for the Mattel doll to the grave, according to Jam Press.
“This coffin, with its striking bright pink color, represents the spark and energy of those unforgettable moments they lived,” a promotional clip for the vibrant casket says.
“It is a reminder that our stories deserve to be remembered and celebrated with color and vibrancy. May this tribute be a celebration full of love, colors and unforgettable memories.”
One company, Olivares Funeral Home, is promoting their “Barbie House” coffin with the slogan: “So you can rest like Barbie.”
But they’re not the only outlet to capitalize on the success of the film starring Margot Robbie in the title role and Ryan Gosling as her buff bud Ken.
Funeral homes in Mexico, El Salvador and across Latin America are also launching coffins in the trendy hue, giving people the opportunity to make sure their loved ones are pretty in pink forever.
Alpha and Omega Funeral Home in Ahuachapán, El Salvador, offers a Barbie-themed coffin, though they were ahead of the trend and launched their pink coffin about a year ago.
Undertaker Isaac Villegas told Jam Press that interest in the bright-colored model soared when the movie was released — leading them to offer a 30% discount for anyone interested.
“We wanted to promote the pink coffin as it has become a trend and people have been contacting us. Of the 40 people who inquired about it, we have already closed a contract with at least 10 new clients,” Villegas said. “We even ran out of stock.”
One local admitted that they “want one for when I die,” while another suggested that “Eternal rest doesn’t look so bad anymore.”
“Before cremating me, I hope they put me in a Barbie coffin for my funeral,” another said.
“Death in plastic, it’s fantastic,” someone also quipped.
