I Shih Tzu not!
A TikTok user named Maggie claims that she was bamboozled by a dog breeder on Craigslist while purchasing what she thought was a purebred Shih Tzu puppy.
In a recent TikTok, Maggie recalled buying her dog Alice from the classified listings site six years ago. She showed a picture of the fluffy “believable” pup, who has since fully grown into a dog that is decidedly not Shih Tzu.
She became suspicious as she watched Alice grow “bigger and bigger” — well beyond the toy-sized breed she’d bargained for.
“Every time I asked the breeder about it, she would respond that the percentage of Shih Tzu [Alice] was kept getting lower and lower,” the Californian pet parent explained in a clip posted on Friday.
“So first it was ‘Oh, she’s purebred,’ and then ‘she’s 50%, oh, her grandpa was a Shih Tzu’ until finally, the breeder stops responding altogether.”
Alice also started shedding — which Shih Tzus seldomly do — so Maggie got her DNA tested.
Turns out, Alice was not purebred — in fact, she was 0% Shih Tzu.
“She is actually mostly shepherd, Chow Chow, and a little bit of pitbull and super mutt,” Maggie claimed, adding that the pooch weighs nearly 65 pounds now.
Despite the ruff start, Maggie and Alice have lived happily ever after for the past six years.
Nearly 100,000 TikTok users have tuned-in to Maggie and Alice’s tall tail. Meanwhile, some viewers dragged the dog owner for getting scammed.
“She did not look like a Shih Tzu as a puppy lol,” one mocked.
“As a Shih Tzu mom, I can tell you she never looked Shih Tzu that nose is the key! But I mean she is a beauty,” another conceded.
Nevertheless, Alice’s charms, including her distinct “snaggle tooth,” are easy to see, according to Maggie and her followers.
“She’s a jumbooooooo shitzuuuu she’s super cute,” one fan gushed.
“Best Craigslist story though!” another declared, adding, “Your fur baby is super cute.”
