It takes good money to be this cheeky.
A woman who always dreamed of having dimples claimed she spent nearly $1,500 on surgery to get them stitched into her cheeks — only for them to fade months later.
Boston native Becky Tang, 29, told Kennedy News that she had always wanted to have small indentations ever since she can remember.
“Ever since I was younger, I’ve always loved the look of dimples,” said Tang. “I thought they were always cute.”
At the age of 17, Tang told the news outlet she would often pierce her cheeks after she claimed that someone told her that she would get dimples from the procedure.
“I kept them in for maybe three months and then afterward took them off,” explained Tang, adding that while she did indeed have the desired feature it usually did not last long.
Resigning herself to a dimple-less life, Tang said that she eventually forgot about her obsession “for the longest time” until a friend of a friend told her that they knew someone who had gotten work done.
“I saw it and thought it looked really nice and really cute and she spoke about who and where she went,” gushed Tang to the news outlet. “I went to see if anyone else had got this done and saw the other reviews. I was interested in it.”
Tang’s research led her to Kim Facial Plastic Surgery in Doraville, Georgia which agreed to operate on her in January 2023.
According to the woman, the surgery only takes 20 minutes to complete.
Tang said that when she arrived at the facility, the doctor briefly went over the procedure and aftercare before escorting her into the operating room.
“I laid down in the room and each side took about five minutes,” recalled the data clerk. “It’s just a quick stitch inside the cheek that pulls in the muscle of the cheek.”
Following the surgery, Tang said she looked “crazy” due to the fact her new-found dimples were so deep, but she eventually came to love them.
Tang also stated her face was incredibly swollen.
“The first two days it felt really swollen, she said. “It didn’t hurt, and I could still eat and talk. The only time it hurt was if I laughed too hard.”
“I had three days of antibiotics but the pain was pretty manageable,” continued Tang. “I only took painkillers the first day and after that it was fine.”
Tang also claimed that the surgery didn’t affect her sleeping habit either.
Like all good things, Tang’s dimple days have come to an end leaving the Bostonian with only one dimple on her left side that is only visible when she smiles.
Despite that, Tang claims that she is ok with the turn of events and recalls that she was warned by the doctor that this could happen.
“The doctor did say during the consultation that there is a small percentage of people where the dimples fade completely or they fade to the point where you only see them when they smile,” lamented Tang. “I happen to be one of the people where they have almost completely faded.”
While it is possible for the woman to “touch up” her dimples, Tang admitted that she is “content with my one dimple left and will see how long it lasts for.”
“I wouldn’t get the piercings redone,” said Tang. ” I’m a mom now and work a corporate job so it isn’t professional.”
“My family and friends definitely thought I was a little crazy for it, but once they settled in they thought it was cute,” she continued.
Recently, however, Tang uploaded a TikTok explaining that she is now reconsidering getting her dimples redone.
“I got dimpleplasty done on January 16, 2023, with Dr. Kim in Atlanta, Ga,” reads the video’s caption. “I wish they looked deeper, I am considering going back to do them again.”
Since posting the video earlier this month, the video had racked up nearly 2.3 million views.
After receiving several bullying comments, Tang uploaded a second video explaining the reason behind the surgery.
“A lot of comments are saying that I’m weird for this. I’m a weirdo. I have a mental illness. I have insecurities. I don’t love myself. It’s ugly. It’s unnatural, which is all fine,” says Tang. “Everybody’s entitled to their own opinion but I did what made me happy.”
“I have not insecure I love myself very much. And I don’t think getting dimpleplasty is a mental illness. So there’s that and then I’m happy and I’m content,” concluded the woman.
