Stacey Brass-Russell spent most of her working life juggling various gigs — waitressing, acting and even teaching yoga — but it wasn’t until she was in her 50s that she changed course and scored big.
The New Yorker, 54, founded a health and life coaching business that has become incredibly lucrative. The entrepreneur claims she is now making a six-figure salary since she launched four years ago.
“I didn’t set out to be a business coach — how I became one was quite accidental,” she said in a YouTube clip, per Jam Press.
“But it was also a very natural progression after enough people were coming to me to be their coach, and what they really wanted to do was be more successful in their businesses.”
In fact, Brass-Russell planned on becoming a performer, waitressing on the side until she was 30 when she ditched bussing tables to be a yoga instructor.
But then, things began to “deteriorate” and she turned to being a life coach — her success, she said, was a “wonderful surprise.”
“I saw it as a sign from the universe so I dove in,” she said. “I’m very big on wanting people to know that they have everything inside of themselves [to succeed].”
In a video posted by Shera, a women’s empowerment page, she detailed her five core “beliefs” that prime the brain for success.
“The first belief is that you are pre-certified by the universe,” she said.
Often she sees people suffering from “imposter syndrome,” but assures her clients they are perfectly able to “create their next chapter.”
“I’ve watched so many people shrink and play small because they think they don’t have enough certifications, that other people aren’t going to think they are enough of an expert,” she said.
The second, she continued, is “you know how.”
“I created this belief or agreement to believe it, because of how many people are held back from doing big things and making big changes, from taking that step to do the thing they want to do because their brain is saying ‘I don’t know how to do that,’” she explained, noting that it’s vital to shake off those self-doubts in order to be successful.
Next, she believes that “service is your superpower,” guiding clients how to act when they don’t know where to begin.
“I am always right on time,” she said, launching into her fourth mantra, “and what that means is, the human brain is going to sabotage you with all kinds of thoughts that you’re behind.”
“You look over and see someone else is already so much more successful than you and so you start judging yourself, comparing and despairing, or thinking that you are too old,” Brass-Russell added.
She could have sabotaged herself by thinking she was too old to start a business at 50, she offered as an example, but instead knew that she was “right on time.”
“The fifth belief that we should all put into our brain is: ‘Abundance is my birthright,’” she said, and she doesn’t mean “only money.”
“I work with a lot of people who show up with a lot of scarcity and a lot of fear,” the entrepreneur continued. “Everyone wants a money mindset, but what I teach is that a money mindset is more than just money — it’s about understanding that money is energy and that energy is abundant.”
But she also warns clients that building a business and brand is a long game — there are no shortcuts.
“If there’s one thing I’ve learned, there’s no overnight success; there’s no quick fix,” Brass-Russell said. “The most important thing I’ve learned is the investing of time, energy and money into what you are doing, is what you should focus on.”
Starting a business from scratch, she admitted, is all about the “mindset.”
“[You need to] have confidence that what you’re here to do — people want it, your message matters,” she said. “There is a lot of life and mindset work that we need to do in order to show up fully.”
