I’m a DJ — I breastfeed on stage with one hand and spin with the other

This must be the ultimate lullaby.

Mom of one and musician Heather Christie, 34, is defining a new way of parenting — taking her daughter to over 70 of her DJ gigs while breastfeeding her at the same time.

“I breastfeed on stage because it’s after her bedtime and the only way she goes to sleep is by nursing,” Christie, from Los Angeles, told Caters News Agency.

“It’s just how I am in terms of my parenting style; she has a lot of close contact with me,” she added.

Christie, a singer and songwriter, went viral after she posted a video of herself breastfeeding during her set at the Spirit Weavers gathering in Oregon.

As the beat drops, she is seen slinging her daughter near her breast to feed her, while also dancing and engaging with the large crowd.

Despite balancing her daughter, she kept the party going.

In order to breastfeed on stage, she has to put one leg up on the table, since she has to DJ with one hand while the other is occupied.

“To be received by everyone cheering made me cry — it is so hard to be a woman in music in the music industry, let alone a mother,” Christie said.

“I’m just trying to get through every moment as a new mom and a DJ and pursue my career and doing what I love.”

The 34-year-old explained that she found DJing through her love for music, and realized that she wanted to make people dance.

She said that she is happiest when she is “sharing music on stage.”

The mom hopes that her balancing act could be an opportunity for a new wave of acceptance when it comes to motherhood and parenting styles.

“Even though it’s a novel and anomaly, it still made me think we are ready to embrace us mothers doing our thing, which is so powerful for moms,” Christie said.

And, it looks like Christie isn’t the only mom who has taken her baby on the road with her.

Last August, mom Lauren McAuley, 30, took her 10-month-old baby to Britain’s biggest heavy metal music festival.

The mom had attended the annual Download Festival in Leicestershire, England multiple times in the past, even rocking out at the event while heavily pregnant, and of course, wanted to get her daughter Lemmy in on the tradition.

“I personally really like spending time with my kid so I don’t have a problem with taking her,” McAuley told Kennedy News and Media at the time.

“Some parents like leaving their kids and getting a break, but not everybody has that option. I could have, but I didn’t want to.”
