Jeff Bezos splashed out some major dough on wine to toast his engagement to Lauren Sanchez last week.
But a popular New York City wine seller said the billionaire Amazon founder, 59, got squeezed on the reported $4,285 tab for the bottle of French red.
“Wine fact of the day: Bezos knows less than you and got mega ripped off in France,” wrote Parcelle Wine on its instagram account.
The Instagram post was referring to the bottle of Dugat-Py Grand Cru from Domaine Bernard, which the couple enjoyed at La Petit Maison in Cannes, France.
According to People, the newly engaged globetrotters imbibed the rare wine from the Burgundy region while dining with Bezos’ sister, Christina Bezos Poore, and her husband, Steve Poore, in a vine-covered gazebo overlooking the Mediterranean.
Parcelle, which has a wine bar on the Lower East Side and also ships bottles nationwide, engaged in some lighthearted mocking of Bezos’ wine purchase with other social media users.
One commenter wrote, “LOL what did he think he was ordering, Rousseau Chambertin?”
The Parcelle Wine account quipped, “Love is blind.”
Another joked, “This explains Amazon’s sh-tty wine selection.”
A wine source told The Post that particular bottle last sold at auction on March 3, 2022, for $647.29, which included a 20% buyer’s premium — meaning there was definitely a robust markup.
“The wine, Chambertin, is from the fabled Chambertin vineyard in the Cote D’Or section in Burgundy. This vineyard is one of the most revered in the world,” a North Fork based wholesale wine expert told The Post, adding that the producer, Dugat-Py, “makes about 220 bottles of it a year, about 1 barrel.”
But Bezos can certainly afford a little price gauging from the seaside hotspot.
After all, he proposed to Sanchez, 53, with a giant rock estimated to be worth upward of $2.5 million and is sailing around Europe on his $500 million superyacht.
Or as one commenter noted, “I feel like he can take the hit.”
