McDonald’s has announced the return of the McRib on Tuesday, Dec. 3, for a limited time only at participating locations — with a unique twist for 2024.
The news comes as the fast food giant could certainly use a boost — in the past few weeks, the brand has taken a beating over a rash of E. coli cases stemming from slivered onions, and more recently had to shut down espresso machines over concerns of safety.
Pork patty partisans who just can’t get enough of the legendary sandwich — and want to make their own at home — will be able to snap up a half-gallon-sized jug of the sauce for just $19.99, the Golden Arches declared in a release.
“For the first time ever, we’re giving fans a chance to savor the McRib’s signature flavor,” the company crowed, calling the item “perfect for holiday parties, festive recipes or the ultimate stocking stuffer for McRib lovers.”
The car windshield wiper fluid-looking containers, decorated to look like Christmas sweaters, go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday, November 25, under the title “A Whole Lotta McRib Sauce.”
McDonald’s even set up a webpage with an eager countdown clock.
“The McRib is more than a sandwich — it’s a part of culture, it’s a legend, it’s an event,” said McDonald’s Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer Tariq Hassan.
“McRib SZN is a holiday unto itself, so we wanted to embrace that spirit and give fans an even bigger way to celebrate this year with A Whole Lotta McRib Sauce,” he said.
Adding to the fanfare, Mickey D’s is releasing a new song and music video to accompany the dense sandwich, packed with pickles and onions.
