A wife has revealed she was left devastated when her husband “smashed” their son’s cake into her face on his first birthday.
Candie, 40, shared a video of the moment her other half decided to play a prank on her after their little boy failed to tear into the cake as hoped.
However, his joke didn’t go down well, with Candie writing on TikTok that she “wanted to choke” her husband, revealing she “cried like a baby” as a result.
The video has gone viral, amassing almost 5 million views, with critics accusing him of being a “narcissist” and “walking red flag”.
In the video, the couple can be seen standing behind their son’s high chair ready to sing happy birthday to him.
Before the cake has been placed down, her husband can be heard asserting: “Just give him the cake.”
The family members behind the camera can be heard singing as the one-year-old is encouraged to “smash” his cake.
A smash cake is a small iced sponge that people give their childrens to dig into with their hands and deliberately make a mess, often so adorable photos can be captured.
However, the little boy had zero interest in taking part, prompting the husband to take the cake into his own hands.
In a split-second decision, he pushed it into Candie’s face – and many are horrified.
“The time I wanted to choke my husband for putting our son’s smash cake in my face surrounded by family I had just met for the first time,” she captioned the controversial clip.
“I had long looked forward to our son’s 1st birthday party and the family pictures.
“We didn’t get but one photo before I had to shower. Not sure why he thought this was a good idea.”
“I cried like a baby at the memories lost. The cake was even cut while I showered.”
“If he does this ever again, he won’t live to talk about it.”
After watching on in horror at the footage, many were outraged labeling it “shocking” and “unbelievable”.
“Yes, I would’ve been mortified, hurt and embarrassed as well. Some people lack empathy – it’s sad,” one wrote.
“As a retired wedding photographer, going over pictures taken at the wedding, this was my #1 and only rule. No cake smashing in the face. It’s disrespect,” another penned.
Other viewers told her to notice the “red flags” and “run”.
Candie has since defended her husband after sharing a second video to “answer questions about the situation and party”.
“This thing has just become an animal of its own and just taken off,” she said.
“He is not by any means a s–ty father. He’s a damn good daddy.”
“We have our issues, absolutely, like any other married couple.”
Candie assured that she can now laugh about the situation and has accepted that it “sucked”.
People have jumped to comfort her following the backlash of her first video.
One woman said: “You don’t have to explain yourself. You will always get comments for both sides.”
“As long as you’re good, take support, ignore hate.”
