My niece blew out my birthday cake candles — she stole my moment

A woman has shared a now-viral video of her niece stealing the spotlight and blowing out her candles on her 25th birthday. 

It’s awkward and hilarious to watch, but the 25-year-old was actually really upset that the primary- schooler beat her to the big moment. 

The reaction online has been mixed, with some saying her niece is “entitled,” while others thought it was “relatable and cute.”

Then some people told the woman she was too old to be caring about things like birthdays and candles.

The clip begins with text that says, “When your niece won’t let you have anything alone… birthday included.”

Then in the video, the little girl, Haisley, is sitting on the woman, Angel’s, lap at a restaurant, smiling and getting excited as the candles are being lit in front of her.

Meanwhile, Angel’s face in the background says it all.

This clearly isn’t the first time something like this has happened, and she can tell what her niece is about to do.

She tries to move her out of the way, but Haisley doesn’t budge. 

She then quietly says to her, “Haisley, I can’t see my cake.”

Haisley doesn’t seem to hear or care and continues to be fixated on the cake. 

Then Angel looks around to try and catch the eyes of her family members like, ‘Are you seeing this, guys?’ but no one says or does anything. 

Then right as the cake is ready, Haisley leans down and blows out all the candles herself. 

“Don’t worry, I didn’t want to make a wish anyway,” Angel writes over the clip. 

At the end of the video, she calls the whole incident “tragic” and then jokes that “being an aunty isn’t for the weak.”

“If it’d make my nephews happy, then I’d happily let them do it”

One comment that resonated with a lot of people was this one, saying: “Nah because I NEVER felt this entitled as a child to blow out someone else’s candles, I just KNEW how important it was and NOT my birthday.”

Another person agreed, saying, “One thing about my kid, she won’t ever be one of those annoying kids that blow out other people’s candles, unless they invite her to.”

And a third wrote: “My anger issues could never,” while a fourth chimed in, saying, “MOVE HER!!! You’re not wrong for wanting to celebrate your own birthday.”

“I don’t know why as we get older, we’re expected to not celebrate our birthday as much as we used to,” pointed out someone else. 

“Literally parents let them do whatever they want and their explanation is, ‘Oh they’re just kids, you’re older than them,” claimed a different user.

But others took a more light-hearted approach, claiming it was an innocent move. “Am I too soft? Because if it’d make my nephews happy then I’d happily let them do it because I’m too old to care about candles,” one woman said. 

Then another wrote, “Personally I don’t see the big deal. I would literally grab my nieces so they can blow the candles out with me.”
