My Uber Eats driver asked me for gas money to deliver my food

Complaining about tipping is one thing — but how would you feel about paying for gas on top of your food delivery?

An Uber Eats driver had ignited a fiery debate after he asked a customer to chip in for some gas when he realized he was running out, and was unsure if he’d make it to deliver the food.

The customer, Exavier Pope, was perplexed at what was happening, posting a tweet about his experience.

“This Uber Eats Driver just asked me to CashApp him gas money to bring my food to me,” the Chicago resident tweeted on May 31.

Pope continued saying the driver was “harassing” him, and wouldn’t stop calling.

“He has now called me five times. This is harassment,” he continued. “I am about to call the police on this dude.”

According to the driver, he was about to run out of petrol and he didn’t realize the order was so far away.

The furious (and probably hungry) customer also shared a picture once the food had arrived, which he said had been placed “on the ground outside like trash.”

“Mmmm tasty,” he added, sarcastically. “Literally in the alley with the trash.”

Uber Support responded, thanking Pope for bringing the mishap to their attention.

“Behavior like this is definitely not okay,” they wrote.

“A member of our team is on top of this and will follow up with you via in-app as well as to the email address associated with your Uber account.”

“It’s something I do not want to experience again,” Pope responded in a Tweet. “A person coming to my home pressuring me for money. My lawyer brain is active on this.”

Many Twitter users responded saying they’d had terrible experiences with the delivery app in the past.

“Got to add Uber Eats drivers withholding my food for more money to the list of reasons why I don’t use that service anymore,” one disgruntled user said.

Others suggested ways he could have workshopped the situation.

“You should have sent him $5 and then reduced the tip by $5 if you’re so concerned,” someone commented.

“The request was unprofessional, but you handled the situation poorly,” added another. “It was not necessary to escalate to the point of threatening to call the police on your Uber Eats driver.”

The Post have contacted Uber Eats for comment.
