What happens in Ireland gets repeated on “College GameDay.”

ESPN’s Pat McAfee, who was “chugging beers” during his live show in Dublin, Ireland on Friday afternoon, showed no signs of hangover Saturday morning on the set of the college football preview show despite making an outrageous claim.

“What’s the crack they say around here? That means what’s the story,” McAfee said. “The story for me was 30 Guinnesses. So it is an honor to be in this city.”

“GameDay” host Rece Davis asked McAfee if he “split the G” on all 30 beers.

It’s a reference to a drinking game where the imbibed try to get the top of the pint of beer to line up perfectly with the middle of the letter “G” on a glass’ logo.

McAfee had a different mission in mind.

“’Split the G’ is what the people do, but I powered right through those normally and just made those things disappear,” McAfee said. “That’s what you have to do whenever you are in Ireland amongst these great people.”

McAfee made a plea for the show to host a remote broadcast in Ireland on the regular.

Perhaps he is trying to build up his tolerance.

“This should become an annual tradition for us, I think,” McAfee said.

College football season kicked off at noon Saturday with No. 10 Florida State facing Georgia Tech in front of a crowd that was expected to be 47,000 fans, including 25,000 visitors, according to Davis.

Within minutes of the show’s start from J.R. Mahon’s Pub on Friday afternoon, McAfee claimed, “We’re already drunk.” He later admitted, “We should not be on TV right now.”

When the show ended, McAfee estimated he was “10 beers deep.”

That means, if his wild estimate is accurate, he drank twice as much after the show ended and was still suited up for the 9 a.m. start to “GameDay.”

It was former Alabama head coach Nick Saban’s introduction to the “GameDay” cast.
