Miuccia Prada can make clodhoppers look cool and boxy shapes seem sexy. She even recast avocado green, long associated with kitchen appliances from the ‘70s, as a desirable color.
Now the Italian designer has brought her glamorous brand of “ugly chic” to Prada Beauty, the house’s new color cosmetics and treatment collection.
On Friday night, the brand celebrated its recent launch with an elegant cocktail party for hundreds at Williamsburg hotspot Skylight at The Refinery. Revelers sipped champagne and cocktails inside the domed penthouse on the waterfront, and took photos of the glittering New York skyline.
During the development process, global creative makeup artist Lynsey Alexander met with Miuccia, explored the archives of thousands of fabrics and patterns and pushed the labs to ever-better formulations. She also teamed with global creative e-makeup artist Ines Alpha, who works with 3D software and augmented reality.
Prada Makeup consists of just three refillable products in silver and gold metallic packaging, along with brushes and a blender.
The fan favorite is Prada Reveal skin optimizing foundation, which has an incredibly high 4.6-star average online. Available in 33 shades, it has a soft matte finish and buildable medium coverage that wears up to 24 hours. “Gives that clean, natural, and glowy vibe,” raved one reviewer. “Totally in love with it.”
There are two types of zero-shine lipstick available in 36 shades total – Prada Monochrome Hyper Matte and Prada Monochrome Soft Matte – plus Prada Balm, a lip smoother and moisturizer.
The Prada Dimensions eye palettes are where things get loud. Instead of a quartet of predictable neutrals, the brand grouped metallic shimmers and earth tones with runway shades like electric purple and parrot green. “The colors are so vibrant and pigmented, and they blend like a dream,” wrote one reviewer who enjoyed playing with the shades.
As for Prada Augmented treatment products, there are four high-tech options: The Cream, The Serum, The Essence and The Cleanser & Makeup Remover. All are enhanced with a rare-plant-derived Adapto.gn Smart Technology, said to enhance the skin’s ability to adapt to its environment.
We’re just waiting for the avocado eyeshadow.
