Sinéad O’Connor, ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ singer, dead at 56

Sinead O’Connor, the “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer, has died at the age of 56.

She released 10 studio albums.

Her rendition of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” was named the number one world single in 1990 at the Billboard Music Awards. The won a Grammy the following year for her album “I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got.”

The “Nothing Compares 2 U” hitmaker in January lost her 17-year-old son, who she said, “decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God.”
As she continued to grieve the loss, O’Connor’s management team released a statement announcing she was cancelling all her scheduled gigs and will not be performing for the rest of the year.

O’Connor is survived by three children. Her son, Shane, died last year at 17.
