A new report is revealing America’s favorite Halloween candies — and spelling out who is goblin them up come Oct. 31.
Americans are gearing up to spend $3.6 billion on candy this spooky season — up from last year’s $3.1 billion — with the average consumer shelling out about $32, according to data from Candystore.com.
The top 10 most popular Halloween candies are Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, followed by M&M’s, Hot Tamales, Skittles, Sour Patch Kids, Starburst, Hershey’s Kisses, candy corn, Hershey’s mini bars, and finally, Snickers.
In New York, Sour Patch Kids were found to be the most popular Halloween candy — with Hot Tamales and candy corn on their heels.
New Jersey, on the other hand, fancies Tootsie Pops, then M&Ms and Skittles.
Connecticut favors Almond Joy, Milky Way and M&Ms.
The Keystone state of Pennsylvania naturally prefers Hershey’s mini bars, as it is home to their chocolatey empire.
As is the case with NJ, M&M’s and Skittles place second and third.
The commonwealth of Massachusetts enjoys Butterfingers, Sour Patch Kids, and Double Bubble chewing gum.
Across the country, Floridians grab Reese’s cups first, followed by Skittles and Hot Tamales.
Texans love Sour Patch Kids, Reese’s cups, and Starburst as well.
California ranks M&M’s tops — ahead of Reese’s cups and Skittles. The latter just avoided a ban in the Golden State over its ingredients.
Kit Kats, surprisingly, only appear on the list as the second-most desired candy in Illinois.
The state prefers Sour Patch Kids.
