It didn’t cost an arm or leg … just a finger.
A woman is claiming that UberEats charged her $20 for a canceled order despite her driver saying the chef had cut his finger off.
In a TikTok that was posted Wednesday — which has gained nearly 378,000 views — Sami Schubert revealed that her driver urged her to cancel the order due to the fact there were ambulances at the restaurant.
“I decided to order UberEats because I was craving pancakes,” begins Schubert. ” So I decided to get IHOP at 8 p.m. on a Sunday.”
Schubert says that she was waiting for several hours before the driver contacted her saying that he was at the restaurant but the chef had cut off his finger.
According to Schubert, the driver advised canceling the order “because they are obviously not going to do to-go orders for a while.”
Following their advice, Schubert cancels the order.
Moments later, the hungry woman was slapped with a $20 cancellation fee for “inconveniencing the driver and the restaurant.
Now incredibly hangry, Schubert reached out to UberEats to explain the situation and the popular food delivery hit back that customers should never cancel orders “based on the word of your driver.”
The company said that anytime that happens, a person should call Uber and get their opinion.
That did not fly with Schubert.
“Well, I received no service. There was no food at my door. The restaurant obviously is struggling right now and their not gonna give me food and your driver is not going to give it to me,” slammed Schubert. “Your driver is the one who told me to cancel the order. I did not choose to. They said ‘you need to cancel this. No one is picking it up.’”
“So you are falsely advertising it is safe to cancel your order in these situations,” continued Schubert before pulling Uber’s official guide about when to cancel an order. ” This is a known issue. The chef had an injury and cannot make my food. Therefore I can receive food and therefore I should receive a refund.”
Uber declined the refund and ended the chat according to Schubert, who demanded a follow-up investigation.
The investigation said that Schubert was not entitled to a refund.
Not easily dissuaded, Schubert then called Uber who said they would need to get the driver to confirm what happened.
Uber was unable to reach the driver so they declined the refund for a third time.
Schubert then called her bank to dispute the charges.
The Post reached out to UberEats for comment.
Several Tiktokers cooked up their own ideas as to what was going on.
“Maybe the driver scammed you $20 inconvenience fee instead of tip,” theorized one person.
“That’s happened twice to me now,” slammed another person.
“I am an Uber Eats delivery person,” claimed one commenter. “If there is a problem like that, I usually call and cancel the order. That person did it wrong.”
