McDonald’s bringing back fan-favorite menu item after 8-year hiatus

Fans are McLovin’ it.

McDonald’s is reportedly once again bringing back the fan-favorite Oreo Frappé for a limited time in the spring and summer, according to the Fast Food Post.

The chocolaty beverage will be available starting May 17 at select locations, the website said.

The fast food giant has yet to officially confirm the return of the drink.

The Post has reached out to McDonald’s for comment.

The iced beverage was described by one outlet as “dessert in a cup.”

“A refreshing sweet treat made from mocha, a hint of coffee and Oreo cookie pieces,” reads the item’s product description. “Blended with ice then hand topped with whipped cream and a few more Oreo cookie pieces for good measure.”

Clocking in at 460 calories for a small-size Frappé, the drink was discontinued in 2015.

One McDonald’s general manager told the Fast Food Post that some participating locations will get “a whole Oreo cookie, and it will even come with a little blue spoon so you can scoop it like ice cream.”

Several Twitter users were also very excited to hear about the Oreo Frappé’s return.

“Oreo frappe sounds lit,” tweeted one user.

The news comes as the chain restaurant was forced to lay off hundreds of employees in its corporate offices and cut pay and benefits for others.

“As long as it tastes like it did years ago, I’ll be getting one multiple days a week,” exclaimed another.

“Patiently waiting for @McDonalds to release the Oreo Frappé,” tweeted a third person.

Other social media users were less thrilled with the announcement.

“Went into this thinking it was snack wraps but it’s a dumbass Oreo Frappé,” slammed one user.

Clocking in at 460 calories for a small-sized Frappé, the drink was discontinued in 2015 in order to make way for the now iconic Oreo McFlurry.

“Not McDonald’s making a ‘huge announcement’ & it’s just the Oreo Frappé … I thought the southwest salad was coming back,” chided another.

The return of the caffeinated drink is one of several changes to the Golden Arches’ menu.

In 2022, the fast food company announced that the popular McRib sandwich — which debuted in Kansas City, Kansas, in 1981 — would briefly reappear on the menu as a part of its “farewell tour” before being discontinued for good.

Despite facing an onslaught of online leaks about how its food is made, McDonald’s recently announced that it will revamp its iconic burger to make it juicer with softer buns, gooier cheese, and more onions and sauce.

The news also comes as the chain restaurant was forced to lay off hundreds of employees in its corporate offices and cut pay and benefits for others.
