This bride just wanted to have funds.
Charlotte Deering, 27, created her dream Alice in Wonderland-themed wedding while balling on a budget — spending around $2,400 for the entire bash last month, including the honeymoon.
Deering, from England, even purchased her white dress at the grocery store Tesco for $12, getting creative with her childhood sweetheart, Caine, 26.
“I love to be frugal and show people that you don’t need to spend thousands to have what you like — with a little extra work, it’ll come together without the huge price tag,” Deering told Jam Press.
“It’s all for one day after all, and for me, it’s not worth getting into debt and stressing over,” she added.
To keep costs low, the savvy couple decorated the venue, a local hall they rented for about $125, on their own.
The wedding took place at the registry office, with only their parents and daughter in attendance, for a grand total of just under $200.
They purchased fake flowers, jar lights, and candles from a discount site, TEMU, and had Deering’s sister make their wedding cake.
“Instead of sending out invites, I created a Facebook group, which saved us hundreds of pounds on postage alone,” Deering told Jam Press. “I was able to keep everyone up-to-date and message people easily.”
Her sister-in-law made 100 cupcakes for the party, and they negotiated with the catering company, resulting in a deal where they could serve 90 guests street food for only $900.
They had guests pay for their own drinks, while their DJ was actually a free trial of Spotify premium.
And, instead of having bridesmaids and a best man, they had their friends take photos of them in the park so they didn’t have to hire a photographer.
Deering was able to scour the internet for discount codes, too, helping her save money on online orders.
“For the sweets table, I bought a tub of them from B&M and dished them out into jars, which we gave to children as party favors,” she explained.
“I popped to Iceland and grabbed some frozen bits for snacks in the evening, which only cost [$36].”
Even their looks for the big day were a bargain — not only did Deering buy her dress for cheap, but she also did her own hair and makeup after watching tutorials on YouTube.
She purchased a set of fake nails and her shoes on Shein for around $15.
“Our family and friends thought it cost us a fortune, and I had so many compliments on my dress,” Deering shared.
“People were in disbelief about how cheap it was, and quite a few said it’s given them inspiration for their own wedding dress,” she added.
Her husband’s suit was bought on ASOS for $145, and their wedding rings cost less than $40 from Argos.
Deering believes her wedding was “better than most.”
“To me, it was super satisfying making sure we saved where we could, and everything was completely personal to us,” she said. “It felt good celebrating the day and not worrying about the amount of money it had cost us.”
The mom of one shares money-saving tips on her Instagram page, @themoneyferret, advising other couples to stay true to themselves when it comes to wedding planning.
She said it’s “important” to make sure you’re getting the best deal, but at the end of the day, any discount counts as saving.
“Don’t worry about pleasing people, and just because it’s not traditional, doesn’t mean it’s not special,” Deering said. “It’s about whatever works for you — but it was a dream come true.”
Now, the couple are off to their mini-moon in Sand Le Mere, Yorkshire — for only $145.
