Already teeming with luxe amenities, pricey California hotels are rushing to upgrade their rooms to cater to wellness fanatics.
The Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills now has its own wellness floor — with such features as hypoallergenic hardwood flooring, water-purification systems, and even lighting that adapts to your circadian rhythm. The rooms also come with yoga mats and blocks.
The hotel first trialed the idea of a wellness room back in 2017, Jessica Tardif, the hotel’s commercial director, told Travel + Leisure — saying “we started conservatively.”
Now, a coveted floor with easy access to the elite property’s spa, pool, and fitness center is dedicated to the concept.
And it’s only available for those willing to pay an average price of $1,145 per night, the outlet reported.
Out by the beach, the Santa Monica Proper Hotel is jumping on the growing trend — recently upgrading six standard rooms with extra features including temperature-controlled Eight Sleep mattresses.
A night at one of these rooms will set you back a not-so-beach-breezy $814, reportedly.
Booking one of these rooms grants you access to the exclusive “Proper Club”, a members-only lounge and spa featuring cold plunges and saunas. (Otherwise, a day pass for the club goes for $295.)
That’s smalltime stuff compared to the setup at the upcoming Lake Tahoe Proper, a sister property at the site of the legendary Cal Neva Resort, a Hollywood haunt once partially owned by Frank Sinatra and frequented by Marilyn Monroe.
The Lake Tahoe Proper will have 50,000 square feet of space dedicated solely to wellness, including a spa, an indoor pool, hydrotherapy experiences, and seasonal sports like skiing, hiking, boating, and mountain biking. The resort will also have three padel courts and a free-standing Pickleball building.
“Clients want to keep up their strength-training routines or maintain their sleep quality,” Fora travel advisor Alexandra Shea told Travel + Leisure. “Wellness-oriented room categories—or hotels with strong wellness infrastructure — often end up being the best fit.”
In Hawaii, Maui’s Grand Wailea debuted wellness rooms in 2024, with each featuring an expensive air purifier, Therabody equipment, and white-noise sound machines.
“Well-being is becoming part of the core guest experience, rather than an added amenity,” J. P. Oliver, the managing director of the resort, told Travel + Leisure.
The resort’s wellness suites will set you back anywhere from $750 to over $1,000 per night, depending on when you book.
The toned-up trend is spreading far and wide.
