Doctors may conduct pelvic exams, Pap smears, colposcopy (examination of the cervix) and biopsy to detect vaginal cancer. What is the treatment?
If cancer is in an early stage and its symptoms are recognized in time, then treatment is possible. But if the cancer has spread outside the vagina, it becomes difficult to treat. Depending on the situation, doctors perform surgery to remove small tumors or lesions. A part of the vagina is surgically removed to remove the entire cancer. If the cancer has spread to the pelvis, then doctors also recommend removal of the bladder, ovaries, uterus, vagina, rectum and lower part of the colon. Apart from this, vaginal cancer is also treated by radiation therapy or chemotherapy.
