It made quite a splash!
A giant waterspout wreaked havoc along the coastline of tourist hotspot Ayia Napa in Cyprus this week and video of the event is taking the internet by storm, SWNS reported.
The twister began as a long, thin column above the water but quickly gained speed and formed into a much wider and faster vortex, the footage reveals.
When it finally hit the beach, the waterspout sent beach furniture spiraling through the air. Sand and water flew everywhere, prompting tourists to run for cover, footage shows.
“Nobody was injured,” Luxury Lets Cyprus, who first posted the video on their Instagram, told The Post.
There are two types of waterspouts, one more dangerous than the other, according to the NOAA.
The more threatening “tornadic” waterspouts form during severe storms just like tornadoes do, and “fair weather” waterspouts form over open water.
Regardless of which waterspout one may encounter, the NOAA suggests moving a 90-degree angle away from the spiral.
