Aldi fans are lining up their freezers with store-bought frozen cubes — here’s why ice is so hot

Aldi needs to chill.

The discount grocery giant, famous for its bargains and high-quality private-label products, has shoppers divided over a viral new product in the frozen section. The item in question: ice cubes.

And for $4.99, they could be yours. Each box comes with four “ultra pure” cubes at 1.8‑inch and while it seems silly, folks are saying there’s a good reason for them.

The cubes are designed to melt more slowly, keeping your drinks cold without watering them down and diluting the intended flavor profile. Each cube is highly dense, and has minimal air bubbles and a bit larger because.

These are typically used for bourbon, whiskey or other cocktails where preservation counts.

Shoppers were stunned and a bit confused about whether or not the product was actually real or just a brilliant marketing scheme as it first rose to fame on popular X account Dexerto. However, a trove of customers claim it’s not only real but also fabulous.

But you won’t see them online — you’ll likely need to order them ahead of time for delivery or grab them at curbside pickup.

Some shoppers are reporting finding the boxes in the freezer aisle, while others report never coming across a box in any of their local stores. This is because Aldi is known for stocking short-run, limited and regional products that never hit the site.

Regardless, shoppers are in their feels. The X post was flooded with folks praising — and bashing the ice.

“They are big, special cubes; you can use them for your alcohol drink at parties. Totally worth five bucks unless you learn to make your own,” one post read.

That didn’t sit well with another shopper, as they went in on the customer, “Totally not worth $5 at all, you dummy. Just get the molding kit once and get as many as you want. This is just stupid spending.”

Another shopper chimed in, “A lot of nice bars and restaurants buy premium ice; it’s harder to find on the consumer market.”

The chain recently made waves with its new “Blind Box” giveaway. For four days beginning June 22, the German grocery chain was dishing out different boxes filled with specific goodies.

The Snack Blind Box is a menagerie of sweet, savory, and crunchy flavors featuring premium cheeses, dips, and sweet treats, “made for mixing, matching, and snacking whenever the craving hits,” according to the website.

Meanwhile, the Fiber Box “AKA the feel-your-best box” was filled with gut-friendly staples to support digestion and a healthy routine.

The Protein Blind Box was packed with high-protein picks “to keep you fueled without the fuss.”

And special shoppers saw the Mystery Blind Box, which was “a surprise mix of ALDI fan favorites and standout picks from across the store, packed with plenty to obsess over.”

According to Aldi, more than 100 boxes will be given away in each drop.

“With surprise unboxings more popular than ever, this is our way of helping customers discover even more favorites,” Bridget Kozlowski, director of communications for Aldi, said in a news release.
