Bodybuilder, 28, dies from cardiac arrest at the gym

A bodybuilder died suddenly at the gym after going into cardiac arrest.

José Mateus Correia Silva, 28, was reportedly working out with his friends when he suddenly went into cardiac arrest and was rushed to a nearby fire station to receive aid. However, the attempts to resuscitate him were futile.

On Friday, Nov. 22, the award-winning bodybuilder died, leaving behind a wife, parents and siblings, according to several reports. He was laid to rest two days later in Brazil.

“I want to thank the entire team that tried to save his life,” his brother, Tiago, said in a statement after he passed, noting that José had no prior health conditions. “They were all very professional and provided all the support.”

José no longer competed as a bodybuilder but finished ninth place in the 2018 South American Championships in the Men’s Physique Class up to 179cm, per the Daily Mail.

Despite retiring from competition, he liked maintaining his physique while coaching athletes, creating social media content and running a supplement chain and nutrition line.

Despite retiring from bodybuilding, his brother insisted he was in good health with no medical conditions.
“Heaven gained an angle,” Tiago, his brother, said.

“Heaven gained an angel. We are deeply saddened. He was so loved,” Tiago said. “We’ve received so many kind messages, flowers, and expressions of support.”

José is only the latest in a string of young bodybuilder deaths in recent years.
