I give my baby a fake tan — people say I’m a ‘disgusting’ mom

He has his mother’s eyes and gets his glowing skin from a bottle.

A mother has divided users on TikTok after jokingly suggesting she uses fake tans on her infant — preferring him with a golden glow.

The mom, Kylen Suttner, 21, uploaded the short clip to TikTok, writing she gives her son a sun-kissed look to match her tan.

“When everyone is telling me to stop self-tanning my baby but the loving tan employees have families to feed,” she joked in the video, holding up her baby boy, Suede, who she gave birth to in December 2022, up to the camera.

In a comment to The Post, Suttner confirmed the video was a joke.

“He had jaundice and looked really tan when he was born,” she said in an email. “Everyone commented on his color, so I decided to make a joke about it. I would never actually use self tanner on my baby.

“I feel like most people understood it was a joke,” she added. “But the few who didn’t were appalled that I would self tan my baby.”

Despite it being a joke, some were still appalled by the clip.

“Disgusting! So horrible,” one irate user commented.

However, others recognized the video, which has been viewed 998,600 times, was a joke.

“I love this,” laughed another. “I wish I had his skin color.”

According to American Pregnancy.org, many tans in a bottle are safe to use when pregnant, although they do recommend testing it on a patch of skin first.

“Your skin may be more sensitive and irritable during pregnancy,” the site noted.

The only concern of using fake tan during pregnancy is if the active ingredient, dihydroxyacetone, is able to penetrate the skin.

“Studies do not confirm that it can, but some health care providers encourage women to wait until after the first trimester, just to play it safe,” the site said, adding DHA has been used in cosmetics since 1960 and no problems have been reported.

A midwife from United Kingdom site BabyCentre said fake tan won’t harm your baby if you use it as a mousse, lotion, cream, water, oil or wipe.

“As your skin renews itself, the fake tan fades as the skin naturally sheds its cells,” they said.
