This one could be unexplaneable.
A TikToker user is sparking debate after they posted an “unethical life hack” about what to do when someone is reclining their seat in front of you on a plane.
The video, posted by user @thelkshow, has reached 2 million views.
“When you are on a flight and the person in front of you reclines their seat all the way and leaves you no room,” they advised.
“Turn on the air con above you on full blast and point it at the top of their head.”
The Post reached out to the TikTok user for comment.
In the caption of the clip, they also added, “The plane ride is so long when you get one of these people in front of you 🥱.”
However, although this may be a tip you can fly away with, it drew mixed reactions from viewers, with commenters debating the general etiquette about whether or not you should even recline your seat in the first place.
“People that complain about the seats that recline are the worst kind of people,” one person commented.
“The seats are so uncomfortable… everyone should collectively recline! 💺,” another agreed.
Someone else chimed in, “Yeah I’m not sitting upright for my 10 hour flight lmao the seat reclines for a reason.”
“The whole point is everyone reclines so you have more room,” a TikToker pointed out. “Those tickets cost a lot of money. Gonna do what I want lol 😂.”
However, others pointed out that it’s not acceptable to recline your seat — and that they would want to try out this hack.
“Wish I had done this 😭,” one commenter wrote. “The guy just told me that the seats move that far back for a reason. I was squashed the whole flight.”
A user seconded, “Unethical?😂 I think this is completely reasonable.”
“Never gonna recline,” one person weighed in. “I just think the person behind me is uncomfortable enough already I can sit up a couple inches and give them some breathing room.”
However, this TikToker isn’t the only one to have sparked a debate over plane etiquette in recent months.
In April, one passenger sparked debate after they put their feet up on the head rest of the seat in front of them.
It was posted on the Reddit community, r/mildlyinfuriating, where the original poster, seefooddiet2200, claimed that the female passenger had reportedly propped their “smelly feet on the headrest” during the unspecified flight.
Another man caused controversy after he revealed that he “manspreads” on flights – and doesn’t get the problem with it.
