Saved for a mountain of spaghetti, “parmesan, please” could be part of your next bar order.
The famed espresso martini, the hot girls’ drink of choice, has a new twist – a sprinkle of parmesan cheese.
If extra olive juice signals a dirty martini, shredded parmigiano reggiano must make it filthy.
But before you recoil in disgust, hear out cocktail connoisseur Jordan Hughes, known as @HighProofPreacher online. In a TikTok clip with nearly 270,000 views, Hughes taste tested the unusual concoction, topping his boozy java beverage, or “monstrosity” as he calls it, with some freshly grated parm.
“I regret to inform you that’s kind of awesome,” he admitted.
While he touted the cheesy combination on his platform, fellow bartender and booze enthusiasts took it upon themselves to try it.
But not everyone could say cheese.
For some, it prompted a spit take or the dreaded label “over-hyped.” However, others could cheers to the combo, since it left their taste buds in good spirits. Tongues wagging, the TikTokers even found the conflicting flavors delectable, applauding the mixer as “astonishingly delicious.”
“The coffee flavors are already so intense,” one taste tester from @CrudeCulinary dished in an honest review on TikTok. “The nuttiness of the cheese is a soft, little finish at the end.”
Evie, who runs the page @DrinksByEvie, boasted that the latest drink trend has inspired her to garnish all her espresso martinis with fresh parmesan.
Meanwhile, bartending content creator Chris might have put it best: “It’s f – – king good.”
But the classic espresso martini dubbed the staple drink of 2022, could come with some unwanted side effects. In addition to the caffeine-induced jolt from the java, espresso martini drinkers could be up all night – and not in a fun way.
Experts warn that caffeine intake should stop at 3 p.m., a downer for those throwing back multiple espresso martinis at 9, 10 or 11 at night.
Not only can the cocktail up your heart rate and increase feelings of anxiety or depression, but it could lead to a bout of over-drinking.
“Coffee can improve the taste of alcohol, and sometimes people may not realize how much they may be consuming, and as a result, they end up drinking more alcohol than they would if they would order a glass of wine,” Dr. Johanna Contreras, a cardiologist at Mount Sinai Hospital, previously told The Post.
But when the doctor’s away, the boozers play.
The TikTok tag “#EspressoMartini” has scored over 303 million views, as users take a stab at their own versions of their spirited café au lait, swapping an olive spear for their favorite flavors.
TikTokers have decadently reimagined the elevated cocktail since its popularization last year. Matcha, red velvet and swapping vodka for tequila are among the many ways users have put a unique spin on the timeless fan favorite.
But if parmesan is your poison, ditch the merlot and gouda pairing and slough some grated cheese atop your next round. All you need is 1.5 oz of vodka and espresso, respectively; 0.5 oz of coffee liqueur; 0.25 of simple syrup; and a nicely aged block of cheese.
