McDonald’s fans were lovin’ the Snack Wrap until it was pulled from the menu in 2016 — but it may finally be making a return.
The original Snack Wraps that McDonald’s lovers remember — consisting of chicken, lettuce, shredded cheese and sauce wrapped in a warm tortilla — was discontinued for a variety of reasons: it was difficult and time-consuming to put together, sales weren’t as sturdy as they’d hope, and all-day breakfast was more favorable.
But one eagle-eyed fan of the fast food chain believes their return is imminent, considering McDonald’s just finished testing its new McCrispy Chicken Tenders.
TikTok user @SnachWithZach noted that these tenders — which went through a test run in seven McDonald’s restaurants in Hickory, North Carolina, through Sunday, July 21 — are the “missing link we needed for the Snack Wrap to come back.”
While this may seem like a big theory, @SnachWithZach is likely spot on because back in December, McDonald’s USA President Joe Erlinger essentially confirmed during an Investor Update Q&A that the beloved menu item will make a comeback, saying that having a McCrispy tender will “allow us to eventually have a McCrispy Snack Wrap.”
“If you think it about in the US business we have three really strong chicken brands between McChicken, Chicken McNuggets and obviously McCrispy. But McCrispy we’re in the early days, really building that brand and so looking forward, will we eventually have a crispy tender? Yes. And will that allow us to eventually have a McCrispy snack wrap? Yes. But we’re still in the early days of doing that,” Erlinger said at the time.
However, the Snack Wrap of the future won’t be the same as the Snack Wrap of the past.
The Snack Wraps will be part of the fast food chain’s McCrispy (previously called the “Crispy Chicken Sandwich”) line — meaning that the McCrispy chicken tender will serve as a base for the wrap.
McDonald’s has not given any further information about the McCrispy Chicken Tenders or the Snack Wrap. The company only confirmed the location and dates of the test run to @SnachWithZach.
The Post has reached out for comment.
Unfortunately, there’s no specific release timeline for the new and improved Snack Wrap, but with the testing of the McCrispy tender ending, fans can hope to get their hands on it sooner rather than later.
