Mom issues ‘PSA for husbands everywhere’ to save their marriage during Christmas

It took Aubree Jones 10 years of waking up to an empty Christmas stocking to realize her husband needed to stuff it — and that’s not a euphemism.

It prompted the mom of six to post a “PSA for husbands everywhere”, in the hopes that other wives/partners and moms wouldn’t get the same treatment.

“He learned it’s his job”

The movement began two years ago, and Aubree has continued to repost the clip every year since, reminding husbands they need to step up.

In the original clip, the mom notes that her husband of 13 years, Josh, and their six kids, all enjoy a merry morning, but she gets nothing because Josh has left all gift-organizing to her.

She notes that he has since “learned it’s his job.” But it still concerns Aubree that so many husbands still fail to accept their responsibility.

“Last year we did a poll and 7 out of 10 women either fill their own stocking or wake up to an empty one,” she says this year. “Let’s change that!”

“Should have been his responsibility”

Aubree makes it clear that Josh simply “dropped the ball” and the video was a “wake-up call” — so he’s made up for it, since.

“I’ve taken on this role as an unspoken responsibility because I enjoy it more,” she tells news.com.au.

“But just because you enjoy something doesn’t mean it doesn’t add additional stress to my already busy schedule as a wife and stay-at-home mom.

“The previous years, I had just filled my own stocking, but that was the first time I didn’t do it, and instead left it completely empty.

“When Josh saw the empty stocking, he realized that should have been his responsibility, and he dropped the ball.”

In the clip that goes viral every year, Josh clocks his wife’s empty stocking.

“Why’s it empty?” he asks.

“Santa didn’t come for me,” replies Aubree.

The clip has endlessly resonated with viewers, who admit to either stuffing their own stockings or simply leaving them empty.

Many said they had never considered it from a marriage perspective, with this person writing, “As a mom and wife, this actually made me cry. This is my reality and it hurts.”

This mom shared that it also took her a while to understand the implications: “A couple years ago I finally stopped filling mine… empty until last year, my sweet youngest child, colored a picture and placed it in mine. That’s when everyone else noticed.”

But for some, the issue had been speaking volumes for years.

“It’s not about the gifts,” one viewer stated clearly. ” It’s that he never even thought I was important enough to bother with.”

Speaking to news.com.au, Aubree explains this is why she reposts her clip yearly.

“I really just want to bring attention to husbands who may not realize a small thing like lollipops, moisturizer, and socks in a stocking can make their wife feel seen and appreciated.”
