Newlyweds grilled for serving McDonald’s at wedding: ‘I would be embarrassed’

Mr. & Mrs. McCheapskates.

French newlywed couple Ophélie and Thomas Billaudeau received backlash after serving guests McDonald’s during their wedding reception in Beauvais, France.

“I was afraid that we were going to pay for something that we did not like,” the bride told Le Parisien newspaper. “If you are going to pay, you may as well get something you like.”

In the viral TikTok clip posted on Sept. 17, the bride, 25, and groom, 27, announced the American delicacy that their 45 guests were about to receive.

“Thank you very much and so I’ll let you discover tonight’s meal,” announces the bride. “Come as you are” referencing to the fast food chain’s iconic slogan.

Surprisingly, the food delivery man, a guest in disguise, was greeted with cheers and applause from wedding-goers as he walked in with brown paper bags of Mickey D’s.

The couple ordered dozens of sandwiches, burgers, wraps and nuggets costing nearly 1,000 €. The large fast food catering order required a “special mobilization to ensure the production of more than 300 sandwiches in a very short time.”

The groom posted the 28-second video with 2.4 million views of his overly excited guests who were ready to chow down on the greasy American cuisine.

“We chose that [meal] as a joke. Those around us know that we really like this kind of meal. And above all, we didn’t have a big budget,” explained Thomas.

The bride also admitted she’s a “fussy eater” and preferred to select food she knew she would like even if it’s not the traditional meal.

“We were a little afraid of the reaction of certain aunts and uncles. They had a little trouble at first, but everyone ate eventually,” the bride added.

The Post reached out to the couple via TikTok for additional comment.

Meanwhile, many viewers on the app appeared underwhelmed by the bride and groom’s choice of wedding entrée.

“Frankly, I wouldn’t have tried it,” admitted a watcher. “This is ridiculous.”

“I would have been embarrassed in their place,” commented another.

Others admired their realistic approach to wedding costs.

“Finally, people who have the wedding they want to have without going into debt to show off. Be happy!” declared one fan.

“I would rather eat McDonald’s at my wedding than go into debt for 25 years for a wedding,” agreed another.

Regardless of the naysayers, the Billaudeaus’ walked away knowing their guests “left with a unique memory of this wedding.”

The French newlyweds won’t be the first or last couple to serve their guests McDonald’s at their wedding reception. Indonesia McDonald’s recently announced they’re offering a $200 wedding plan for those who wish to have the Golden Arches cater their big day.
