NEW YORK (PIX11) – The site for monkeypox vaccination appointments in New York City crashed on Tuesday, less than half an hour after new appointments opened.
“Service is unavailable,” the site reads,
The site was set to offer 1,250 appointments for the vaccine. Officials said it was down because of the high volume of traffic.
New York City has become the epicenter of monkeypox. As of Monday, 223 people in New York City have tested positive for orthopoxvirus; Each of those 223 people is likely to have monkeypox.
“Absolutely Embarrassing Rollout” @nychealthyThe *third attempt* to accommodate thousands of gay and bi who want #monkeypox Vaccine,” said State Sen. Brad Hoyleman. “Clearly the system has crashed.”
City council member Eric Boucher said the health department is aware of the problem and is working on it.
“Who could have predicted this? A: Everyone honestly, that’s why people think the government can’t execute simple tasks efficiently,” Boucher tweeted.
